RSPB Bird Survey

28th February 2018

We recently allowed the RSPB to conduct a bird survey on the farm. We’re delighted to have recieved this feedback…

“It may particularly interest you to know that your farm boasted the highest count of skylark across all of our survey farms in the country. Surveying the field at the top of the hill was a challenging but wonderful experience, with an incredible number of singing birds on both visits. Additionally, your farm had the highest diversity of species on the Farmland Bird Index (FBI), with 16 out of 19 species recorded. Importantly, the FBI on your farm increased from 1 to 1.89 between 2008 and 2017. The FBI is one indicator used by the Government to assess the state of wildlife on UK farmland, based on the abundance of 19 bird species. It is fixed at a value of 1 in the baseline survey year, so any value over 1 represents an increase in the wildlife value of the farm over time.”
